Rule of the Week - Coaching with No Timeouts

July 12, 2024 5:14 PM

by San Diego APA

Situation: My opponent is shooting on the 8-ball and one of his teammates shouts out "Think of where the cue ball will go", isn't this a ball in hand foul?

No, taking too many time-outs is not a foul, although consistent attempts to do so may result in a sportsmanship violation.

Rule: Official Team Manual (OTM) page 28-30 section 18b “Coaching”: https://media.poolplayers.com/TMRB/Team-Manual-English.pdf

The only non-shooting ball in hand foul is when you are receiving advice regarding game strategy from a fellow player, other than your designated coach, during a time-out.

Rule: Official Team Manual (OTM) page 53-55 section 15f “Fouls”: https://media.poolplayers.com/TMRB/Team-Manual-English.pdf
