LEAGUE PLAY INFORMATION:
 

The County of San Diego published a new Health Order this week which once again prohibits gatherings of people from different households and specifically restricts the use of pool tables. Therefore, we must continue to delay the resumption of League activity indefinitely. As we have been doing all along, we have again updated the schedules to skip the next two weeks. This does NOT mean we plan to resume in two weeks. We are simply updating in two-week increments. We have no idea when we’ll be able to resume, but we miss you all! Please stay safe and keep others safe so that we can all get back to playing some APA pool! 

TOURNAMENT INFORMATION:
 

The APA National Office posted an announcement this week about postponing the August Showdown Series Championship events. The good news in that sentence is "Postponing" rather than canceling. While we haven't actually run any qualifiers for any of those events yet, many LO's from other parts of the country have and it would be quite a letdown for those players to qualify for an event and not be able to participate. So this is really great news that the events are being moved instead of completely canceled as APA previously feared. It took some creativity to make these work in their current structure, so hats off to the APA Tournament Dept. for keeping these events alive, even if they won't necessarily all take place in 2020. Here is the new schedule of events for all of the previously scheduled Showdown, Poolplayer Championships and World Pool Championship events in case you are keeping score at home:

Ladies 8 Ball Team Championships Dec. 1-4

Masters Championships- Dec 1-5

Wheelchair Championships- Nov. 28- Dec 3

Jack n Jill Doubles Championships- Nov. 28- Dec. 1

Captains Championships- Dec. 2-6

8 Ball World Pool Championships- Nov. 28- Dec. 3

9 Ball World Pool Championships- Dec. 3- 7

The following events will take place in 2021:

9 Ball Doubles Championships- Apr. 27-30

8 Ball Doubles Championships- Apr. 30- May 3

9 Ball Poolplayer Championships- Apr. 30- May 2

8 Ball Poolplayer Championships- Apr. 27-29

The US Amateur is still on its normal schedule, but the deadline to submit your entry form is extended to the end of July 2020.

All four of the events listed for 2021 are going to be doubled up. In other words, qualifiers for 2020 will be merged with qualifiers for 2021 for a much bigger event. The field size will be doubled for both the 8 Ball and 9 Ball Doubles Championships. Payouts will be adjusted accordingly. There is a Wheelchair event scheduled for the Poolplayer Championships in 2021 also, but since we haven't had any participants locally for that event for quite some time, I decided not to hunt for the exact dates for that one. I can get them if you need it.

No word on when qualifying for these events will take place. Once California lets us get back into playing league once again, we will be having a busy tournament schedule to get teams qualified for the November-December events. We will still need to finish up Spring Session once we return. Please stay safe and share this information with your teammates.

We do have teams that paid entry into the 8 Ball and 9 Ball Doubles and Captains Championship qualifiers. You are welcome to continue in a holding pattern for those events, or we can return your entry fee if you prefer. Just let us know if you would like your entry returned. Otherwise, your entry fee will continue holding your spot into these qualifier events.

We certainly miss all of you. This is a very difficult time for all of us, and we hope to be back up and running in August. Thanks for your patience!
