Captains Log, June 24th, 2020

We hope everyone is staying safe and doing their part to help end this pandemic. We hope to be back up and running soon. If we do get the go ahead soon, we will have some tournaments that will have to be scheduled immediately to meet the entry deadlines for the August Las Vegas APA Showdown Series Championships, assuming that they do go on as scheduled. If APA does intend to have these events, then we will do what we can to qualify teams for those events. We will understand if there is anyone who wishes to drop out of these events, but it is our understanding from APA that if these events don’t go on as scheduled in August, they will be cancelled for 2020 entirely. In other words, there is no way APA can reschedule them for later in the year, so those events will just go away. There is a chance of that happening, as there are still many areas that are shut down to league play at this time. If we are given the go ahead to resume league play, we will be attempting to conduct the following qualifier tournaments by the July 13th entry deadline:

2020 Team Captains Championship - Open to the first 32 signed up teams. We already have many signed up and paid at this time. This will be a two day tournament, with only one day of competing for each team.

2020 Jack n Jill Doubles Championship - This will be open to anyone competing in 8 Ball team divisions with a minimum of 20 lifetime scores. Due to the entry deadline, we need to keep this to a one day event, which will likely mean short races with a controlled number of teams participating. We will not be taking entries or sign ups for this event until we actually have word that we can start back up.

2020 8 Ball Doubles Championship . This event is open only to our 8 Ball Doubles league participants.

2020 9 Ball Doubles Championship - This event is open only to our 9 Ball Doubles league participants.

That might seem like a lot of events, but we have it calculated to complete all 4 events over two weekends. One weekend for the Captains event and one weekend for the Doubles events. That’s assuming we will be able to secure a location to do these events. The dates for the Championship events at the Westgate in Las Vegas are (the amount of slots we have for each event is in parenthesis):

Showdown Series Championships: Aug. 11-15, 2020

9-Ball Doubles Championship : Aug. 11-12 (1 slot)

Jack & Jill Doubles Championship : Aug. 11-13 (1 slot)

8-Ball Doubles Championship: Aug. 12-15 (2 slots)

Team Captains Championship : Aug. 13-15 (2 slots)

Another big announcement is that we have improved our electronic payment options once again. This time we are getting rid of the mysdapa.ecwid.com payment site entirely and we will now be working with Stripe, which is integrated with the league app and can be found right on the same page where you download and print your weekly score sheets. There will be some differences in how Stripe works as opposed to how our Ecwid site worked.

With Stripe, you will be able to pay ahead of your match and up to the point that the score sheets are processed. After the score sheet is scored, you won’t have the option of paying using Stripe unless you receive an invoice from the league office. With Stripe, you will be able to pay with American Express, which we weren’t accepting before. You can use debit or credit card. You access Stripe on the app or the league.poolplayers.com website and look for the credit card icon to pay your weekly team fees. You click to put a payment in your shopping cart and then once you are done shopping, you simply check out.

The World Pool Championships are currently slated for November 28-December 6th. This is immediately following the Thanksgiving holiday, so it may be tricky getting your whole team to make it for this event, but they’re the best open dates APA could secure to schedule a 2020 APA World Championship event.

Most of our host locations are back up and running, and they are all feeling the hurt. They need our support even while we aren’t allowed to conduct league play yet. So please, if you’re healthy and able to take the proper precautions and are in need of some food and/or drinks, stop in at your favorite APA host location and maybe if the tables are set up to play on safely, get a game or two in. Most everyone will be rusty at the tables upon our return, unless you were lucky enough to have a pool table to practice on during all of this downtime.

Captains Log December 14th 2020

Captains Log, December 14th, 2020 It’s been a really long time between newsletters. We apologize for that, but there just really hasn’t been a whole lot to discuss. This pandemic has affected all of us in different ways. We know that APA was your social outlet each week that combined hanging out with your friends, supporting the local watering hole and friendly competition on the pool tables. Mayb
Captains Log August 25 - Covid Update
8/25/20 - 8:53 pm
Captains Log, August 25, 2020 Hello everyone! There isn’t really much new to report. We are still in a holding pattern. Many of our locations can’t be open (those that don’t serve food) and those that can be open cannot use the pool tables. Organized gatherings that bring together people from different households are still prohibited, so that means leagues and tournaments also may not take place a
League Activity Continues To Be Postponed Indefinitely
7/3/20 - 8:36 pm
LEAGUE PLAY INFORMATION: The County of San Diego published a new Health Order this week which once again prohibits gatherings of people from different households and specifically restricts the use of pool tables. Therefore, we must continue to delay the resumption of League activity indefinitely. As we have been doing all along, we have again updated the schedules to skip the next two weeks. This
