Captain’s Log – January 23, 2022

by San Diego APA

This is Week 4 of the Spring Session for all standard format weekly 8-ball and 9-ball teams (except for Pockets in-house Divisions 213, 225 and 031 that are in Week 3). Annual APA Memberships for the 2022 calendar year must be paid at this time, otherwise players will be removed from the roster. View the Captain’s Log 1/2/2022 for more information on memberships and how to pay them. Any players that are added in Week 5 and after must pay their membership in order to play, so if you play someone who has not yet paid their membership, we will mark them paid and the team will be responsible for the amount (if not paid, this team balance will display on the scoresheet as past due, and teams will not earn bonus points).

Regarding roster changes, qualified teamstypically cannot change their rosters after Week 4 of the Spring Session. For this 2021-22 league year, we do not have any qualified teams yet since we did not run a Summer Session, so this means any Fall session teams that win the Fall Blast on Feb 5-6 cannot change their rosters after the Blast. Speaking of the Blast, all players competing in the Fall Blast must have their 2022 APA memberships paid in order to participate. Your current Spring roster after the Blast (minus anyone taken off the roster for non-payment of membership fees) will be your City Championship roster, as well as your Vegas roster, provided they meet all of the eligibility requirements.

If you have not seen the announcements on Facebook: “the 2022 8-Ball Southwest Challenge has been cancelled this year. Unfortunately, the stars did not align for this event and we were unable to secure hotel convention space and pool table availability at the same time.” The GOOD NEWS is, we have secured hotel and pool table availability for the next three events (subject to change), so mark your calendars for the 2022 9-Ball Southwest Challenge (October 27-30) and hope to see you in Vegas!

We have officially announced that Spring Singles Regional on March 5-6 will be held here in San Diego at Pockets! San Diego has 66 participants for 8-Ball on Saturday, and 66 participants for 9-Ball on Sunday, with additional participants traveling from South Orange County, so that we will have a winner from every tier advance to the 2022 Poolplayer Championships in Vegas! Players will be receiving higher level tournament packets via email during the first week of February, which will contain registration times and rosters.

Our Junior Academy continues to thrive and our Spring session started this weekend with 45 students! Visit our website at https://sandiego.apaleagues.com/sdapa-junior-academy.aspxfor more information. We may have room for a couple more kids, so contact Lizasoon if you’re interested!

As COVID-19 Omicron variant surged after the holidays, we have had many make-up matches scheduled over the first few weeks of this session. As we continue our pandemic recovery and bring business and life back to our communities, we ask that you follow the APA #PLAYSAFE guidelines. We will continue to support our host locations and respect and enforce any and all mandates.
