Captain’s Log – October 10, 2021

This is our first newsletter as the League Operators of San Diego APA, so you may notice a different tone, but hopefully a friendly one! If you don’t get notifications from the app or are not on Facebook, then you may not have seen our welcome announcement, so here is a link to it:

Greetings from the new League Operators, Scot and Liza!

It’s been a hectic week as you can imagine, with system changes, data changes, account changes, etc., but with Lindsay doing her thing as Office Manager, we hope everything from scoresheets to payments to communication remains seamless…many thanks and kudos to Lindsay for holding down the fort!

Regarding Social Media, Jill has added me to the various San Diego APA Facebook pages and groups, so this will remain our main social media platform for communication and collaboration. Our daughter (almost 13) always tells me that Facebook is for old people, but it certainly serves its purpose, and if you don’t have Facebook, you can at least see our FB feed at the bottom of the home page of our website at: sandiego.apaleagues.com. We will be creating a presence on some other platforms to reach more crowds, but we will continue to use the League Page Posts on the APA League app as the primary place for league news and announcements. So if you have the app on your smartphone, and would like to keep up-to-date, please set your APA profile to receive notifications. If you don’t have the app, you can also access the same information from any web browser at: league.poolplayers.com/sandiego/news.

Regarding Payment Options, we have some new bank accounts with the transition, so we will be updating the “Submit Fees & Scoresheets” page on our website with the new information. For now, you can use the same “Pay League Fees” option from the APA app to pay by credit card using Stripe. However, we have also set up Zelle to use with all major bank accounts, and that can be sent using the sandiego@apaleagues.com email.

Brian also asked if I could share his post about the recent passing of Ron Mendoza: “We sadly announce the passing of Ronald Mendoza Sr., a San Diego APA member since the Fall of 2016. Ron played APA strictly out of Stagecoach up until the last few sessions, where he started playing at the Break Room. Ron was on a team with his son Ted "TJ" Mendoza for most of those sessions, including a trip to the APA World Pool Championships in 2018, where their team finished in 129th place. Ron played a total of 165 matches in 8 Ball and 9 Ball in his time in the league. Ron was 77. Our sincerest condolences to the friends and family of Ron. He will be missed.”

The World Pool Championships are this month! All players on each of the qualified teams can now (and are encouraged to) E-Register on the APA app before you get to Vegas. The online registration greatly reduces the amount of time participants have to wait in line, and the APA will stagger the pick-up times for everyone to get their money and/or goodie bags. On Monday, October 11, 2021 at 1 PM PDT, the APA will go Live on Facebook with a World Pool Championships Preview, to get you prepared for the second big event since the pandemic shutdown. If you cannot tune in, the video will be available on the APA Facebook page to watch later.

Finally, we will be moving to San Diego County towards the end of the month, and will continue to run the South Orange County APA until the end of the year, so although we will be busy, we will be available to answer any and all of your questions and concerns via email, so please feel free to reach out!
