Raising A Player's Skill Level - Rule of the Week

Situation: Our *new player who started as a skill level 3 appears to be more skilled than expected. What should we do during league night?

If you realize during league night that a new player’s skill level appears higher than the assigned level, here are a few options to manage the situation in real time:

Option 1:
Use another player's name on your roster whose skill level more accurately reflects the new player's ability. Then, leave a note for the League Office indicating that Match X was actually played by Player A, not Player B. If the match has already started, you can still document the details of the match and reset the match. Then start with the other players name, enter the details of what has already been played and continue from that point.

Option 2:
Use a blank scoresheet to record the match manually, keeping this particular match separate. After the match, email the completed scoresheet to the League Office.

Option 3:
If you’ve already started scoring in Scorekeeper and don’t want to reset the match, or if you don’t have a player whose skill level better aligns, you can complete the match in Scorekeeper. Once finished, manually complete the remaining racks as if the player had played at the higher skill level, and send that partial paper match to the League Office. Be sure to notify us that you managed the match this way so we’re aware before entering the results.

Teams that continue to start players significantly lower than their ability maybe subject to further action (see bylaws and MVP).

Important:
Please notify the League Office at the time you make any of these adjustments. You can do this via email, text, or Scorekeeper notes. Timely communication helps ensure the match is recorded accurately.

*same rules and processes apply to returning players who have clearly gotten better since they last played.
