League Start Time - Rule of the Week

November 13, 2025 8:07 PM

by San Diego APA

Situation: The team I am playing tonight has a player here but the captain isn’t here yet. The player is stating the captain indicated to wait for them. It is a few minutes past the league start time. What options do we have?

A team may begin play with only one player present. Once a team match begins, play must be continuous. Upon completion of each individual match, the team must have another player available to play or the remaining match(es) will be forfeited. If a team does not have a player present for the next individual match, then forfeit points are awarded to the opponent.

There is no requirement that the player must be the captain of the team. Teams with a *player present that refuse to start will result in a forfeit.

If only one player is present for the Sunday Double Jeopardy format, that player may choose which format to start with. The opposite format is not considered a forfeit until the 15-minute mark has passed and a second player has not arrived.

*If the only player is new to APA, the league office asks that teams show some leniency until another established player arrives.
