Situation: The team we are playing tonight has 4 players available, while their 5th player is at the same location but playing for a different team (in a *different division). The opposing team has requested either a double post or a makeup match (our choice).
Although only 4 players are actively with their team, the 5th player is present at the location and is eligible under the 23-Rule. Per APA bylaws (page 6-7), the following applies:
“If you have five (5) players present that can meet the 23-Rule, you must play those five (5) players and cannot double post.”
Since all five players are present and can meet the 23-Rule, the team is required to play them and is not eligible for a double post or makeup match.
If the 5th player chooses not to play for both teams, that is a personal decision. However, the team is still considered to have five eligible players present. In this case, the team that is ready to play can take a forfeit.
