Rule of the Week - Slow Play

January 16, 2024 10:12 PM

by San Diego APA

Situation: During my matchup my opponent is playing very slow. What options do I have in this case?

The correct order to address slow play is as follows.

One, both team captains and players who are invovled should come together to highlight the *slow play concern and request that the player improves upon their shooting time.

Two, if this does not result in any change send an email to the League Office with the details.

Players and/or teams that get **multiple complaints (from different teams) are subject to penalities.

In most cases the League Office will talk with the player and captain of the team in question. Any additional conversations will result in action.

The OTM has a time guidelines that cover average shots, special shooting situations (tough shots), etc.

NOTE: Exceeding the time guidelines is not a foul; however, it can result in a sportsmanship violation.

Rule: Official Team Manual (OTM) page 8 “Time Guidelines”: https://media.poolplayers.com/TMRB/Team-Manual-English.pdf

*if a team raises this concern both the captain and player of the team where slow play is occuring should not be defensive.

**players or teams who have been warned will likely not get a warning in future sessions or nights.

You can submit a "Rule of the Week" to the league office:

  • Email to sandiego@apaleagues.com.
  • Email Subject Line must read “SDAPA Rule of the Week”
  • Clearly state the rule/situation and if you know where the answer is found please provide those details.
