Through all of the competition and sportsmanship during league play, we form bonds and friendships with fellow teammates and players, and some even become family. This league brings together a community of people who not only love to play pool and compete, but also love being part of this special bond with each other. As we reflect on our first full year as league operators, we’ve witnessed birthday tournaments, birth and wedding announcements, fundraisers, potlucks and other celebrations throughout this closeknit San Diego APA pool community. Before we start the New Year, we want to remember those friends that we loved and lost this past year…

* Charles Horton, Sr. (a.k.a. “Pops”) (1949-2022) Pops started playing in the San Diego APA in 2010 out of Gilly’s Bar and Paradise Lounge & Grill where many players in the central area knew and loved him.

* Joan McGuire (1939-2022) She joined the SDAPA in 2013 and played every session since then, most recently with 9-Ball team “You Rackem We'll Crackem” on Sundays, and playing over 150 matches.

* Edward Ruiz (1962-2022) Eddie started playing in the San Diego APA in 2001 out of Driftwood Lounge in Santee, was captain for teams out of Turkey Inn in Ramona and played the last five years out of Cheers of Ramona, playing over 200 matches in the SDAPA.

* Michael Mitzel (1959-2022) Mike joined SDAPA in 2007, last played as Captain of Pool Bollocks out of El Cajon Grand and with Darryn Lewis and Pocket Knockers out of The Boulevard, playing over 400 matches.

* Michelle Hinkhouse (1959-2022) Shelly joined the SDAPA in 2014 from Oceanside, and played every session out of StageCoach Inn with Bill Calder, playing over 250 matches.

* Norma Posy (1933-2022) Norma joined SDAPA on 8/31/2009, and played every session since then, starting at Lou Jones Inn to Mission Valley Resort to The Ambassador Lounge to The Library, playing over 850 matches.

* Maggie Moore (1951-2022) Maggie joined SDAPA on 10/17/2002, playing on many teams in every session since 2005, Captain of “No D Like Self-D” for years, totaling 1677 matches!

* Ron Moore (1958-2022) Ron sadly passed only three weeks after his wife, Maggie. He joined SDAPA on 5/25/2001 and played 1470 matches all over SD county, including Players Sports Bar, Triple Crown, Lou Jones Inn, Kearny Mesa Bowl, De Oro Mine Company, Hungry Stick, Dirk’s Horseshoe Lounge, Shooters Cocktails, Stadium Club, J.P.’s Pub, Stoney’s, The Library, The Bancroft, Full Circle Saloon, Hearth House, Deano’s Pub and Pockets.

* Shandi Bruce (1986-2022) Shandi joined SDAPA on 9/14/2016, playing 229 matches with Tony at The Library. Tony and Shandi were the first people that Brian Frankland introduced us to when we came down to San Diego, and we will forever remember this bright light that welcomed us with open arms whenever we came through the door.

* Tom Cormack (1967-2022) Tom joined SDAPA on 5/20/2013, playing over 450 matches at the StageCoach Inn in Vista with Bill Calder’s teams.

Although we’ve only been here for just over a year, we have met and continue to meet so many unique personalities that make up the San Diego APA, and we feel fortunate to be a part of such a fun-loving, welcoming community of pool players…Thank you and here’s to many more... ~Scot & Liza
