Captain’s Log – November 7, 2021

November is here, and we hope everyone had an eventful Halloween! This month we will be hosting the 24th Annual Turkey Shoot! For more info, visit the Turkey Shoot Page on our website or view/print the event flier here: https://sandiego.apaleagues.com/Uploads/sandiego/2021_fall/Turkey_Shoot_2021.pdf.

Team Championships

Last week, nine San Diego APA teams competed in the world’s largest pool tournament …the World Pool Championships in Las Vegas! With all qualified teams from 2020 and 2021, and double the 1st Place Prizes of $50,000 for 8-ball and $30,000 for 9-ball, this may well hold the Guinness World record for the largest pool tournament ever in history!
Here are the results:

8-Ball World Pool Championships (1,091 total teams)

· 2 Gods and 3 Hail Mary’s – 65th Place $1,000

· Indv’l Results May Vary – 65th Place $1,000

· Ozone-8 – 513th Place $350

· Stoney's Most Wanted – 129th Place $750

· Whatever It Takes – 257th Place $500

9-Ball World Pool Championships (835 total teams)

· Blame It On Doug – 129th Place $400

· Cuebic – 513th Place $350

· Team Savage – 129th Place $400

· The Magician Shooters – 17th Place $1,000

Singles Championships

In addition to playing in these team events, the APA runs a Singles Program where individuals can compete within their own skill level tiers for a chance to win up to $15,000 at the annual Poolplayer Championships (PPC). We currently have six players qualified for this big event because they won their tiered tournament board at the Fall Singles Regional. Players have one more opportunity to get into the Spring Singles Regional in March 2022, for a chance to advance to the 2022 PPC in Vegas! Players can play in a Local Singles Qualifier up until November 30th, and when we get enough players qualified locally, we will hold the Spring Regional right here in San Diego, where players will have home field advantage and approximately a 1 in 16 chance to advance to the championship! If you’re looking for where you can play locally, visit the San Diego APA Players Facebook group or SDAPA Singles Qualifiers Events & Info Facebook group for upcoming events this month.

Local SDAPA League

We are approaching only four weeks left in the Fall Session! For the Wednesday and Thursday Divisions, that is this week (Nov 10 & 11), which means this is the last week that you can add new players to your roster so that they can get four matches played (MP) to be eligible to play in playoffs. The Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday divisions have five weeks left in the regular session so next week (Nov 14, 15 & 16) will be the last week to add new players.

View Scoresheet and Payment procedures on the “Submit Fees & Scoresheets” page of the website. The preferred format is PDF for submitting scoresheets, which can be created with a free scanner app on your smart phone. Pictures need to be clear, but do not have to be gigantic files with very high resolution (1 MB file size is just fine). The preferred method for sending in payments is Zelle using sandiego@apaleagues.com email address, however you may continue to use the “Pay League Fees” option from the APA app to pay by credit card using Stripe.

Moving update…we have made the move to San Diego County! We are still unpacking and setting up the new office, but we are readily available so hopefully we will see you at the Turkey Shoot or somewhere in the neighborhood!

See you soon! Liza & Scot & Lindsay
