8 and 9 Ball Doubles Log, September 11th, 2020

Welcome back to the San Diego APA Fall Session Doubles Divisions. I have incorporated both Doubles divisions into one newsletter, but please note that the 9 Ball Doubles division doesn’t actually play until September 18th. The San Diego APA Doubles Division is an alternating Saturday league that plays at 3pm. You can play in either league or both, as we do alternate the 8 Ball and 9 Ball Doubles on opposite Saturdays. Team fees are $30 per team per match and rosters are limited to 3 people per team. Each match consists of 2 singles matches followed by a Doubles match using any combination of players on the roster that add up to a handicap limit of 10 or less. We do allow teams in either format to add up to 11 if they started the session as 10 or less. If a team adds up to 12, a roster change will be necessary. To be clear, the singles matches also have to be no more than a handicap 10, unless someone went up in skill level after the start of the session. Teams flip a coin to see who puts up first. Once play starts, it’s alternating shot for each team in the doubles portion of your match. Regular APA rules apply for the game rules for both 8 Ball and 9 Ball Doubles. It is a ball in hand foul to go out of turn in your Doubles match.

8 Ball Doubles Division scoring is just like the Open 8 Ball divisions for the Singles portion of your match, so the points awarded to each team in the Singles would be 3-0, 2-0 or 2-1. In the Doubles match, those points will double. So if you beat your opponent where they didn’t win any games, your score would double from 3-0 to 6-0. The total points earned for the 3 matches will be your score for the week.

9 Ball Doubles Division scoring is also just like the 9 Ball Open divisions, where 20 points is available in the Singles matches and double points are awarded for the Doubles match. A 12-8 win in a Singles match ends up being 24-16 in a Doubles match, etc…

Coaching is allowed. We allow one coach per game in the Doubles League.

Membership fees are due at this time. We need everyone to be paid up in membership fees by week 3. The score sheet will tell you if you still owe membership fees. The fees to renew are $25 at this time. If you pay your membership fees after August 15th, your membership fees will be prorated to $15 when you renew in January.

Schedules do change a lot in the first few weeks of a new session. Sessions last a long time, so we believe in making sure everyone that wants to play can still get their team in. So please double check the schedules frequently.

Our time in San Diego is almost over. We have been blessed with some of the best league members anyone could be associated with. It has been an amazing 25 years of being League Operators for the San Diego APA. We have made so many friends over the years and seen some great pool from our league members, and we will really miss all of you. Liza Gazmen and Scot Burnell will be taking over the league on October 5th and Lindsay will be staying on with them. I’m sure they will be providing you with a newsletter introducing themselves and providing any new phone numbers, email addresses and payment options/web site changes. We’ve known Liza and Scot for many years and we hope you welcome them with open arms. I’m sure they will continue providing you with the quality of professionalism you’ve come to expect from your League Operators. We hope to see you all again soon. Please take care of yourselves and continue enjoying every aspect of the APA. Thanks for all of the amazing memories!

Have a great week and Shoot Pool Good! Brian, Jill and Lindsay
