Ladies Captain’s Log, September 10th, 2021

Welcome back, Ladies! Sadly, this is the last newsletter Jill and I will be sharing with you. The new League Operators will be taking over on October 5th. Liza Gazmen and Scot Burnell plan on continuing things the same way we do and they will analyze whether anything needs to be adjusted later. We’ve known Scot and Liza for many years and they have already been League Operators and we have a lot of respect for how they manage their league, so we hope you welcome them with open arms. We think they will take great care of you. We imagine they will reach out to you with newsletters the same way we do, especially at first so that you are well aware of any changes that might be made to phone numbers, email addresses, any web site changes or how payments are processed. You should still be able to reach out to Lindsay after the transfer as she is staying on with the new LO’s.

You all have been an absolute pleasure to have in our league. We aren’t giving up the league because we want to. We have thoroughly enjoyed our 25 years of running the San Diego APA. Life happens, and we just feel that it’s best to be closer to our family in Illinois right now. Before we started running Ladies divisions, I asked around other league areas how they felt about Ladies only divisions. I actually had other APA LO’s tell me the few times they had a Ladies division that it was an absolute nightmare. Squabbles and infighting to the point they would just shut it down completely. We were scared to start Ladies, but Brandy Pamintuan was adamant that it would be a good thing. She was right. We have had amazing success maintaining a big team count in Ladies between our two divisions. Very rarely is there ever any animosity and we have no idea why those other League Operators had so much trouble with Ladies leagues. We have sent a lot of Ladies teams to the APA World Pool Championships over the years and we have enjoyed watching their teams play in Las Vegas each year. This new session starts a whole new year of qualifying for the 2022 APA World Pool Championships. We are assuming that the event will move back to the August World Pool Championships once again, but we did make sure to end this Fall Session in early March in case it takes place once again at the APA Poolplayer Championships, which normally takes place in late April/early May. We needed to make time for qualifying in case it is the earlier event. APA should have a schedule of events for 2022 soon. They still have their hands full preparing for the 2020/2021 APA World Pool Championships this year.

Ladies Divisions are 3 to 5 person teams and 3 play each week. Points work the same as regular Open 8 Ball divisions, with just 3 matches instead of 5. The handicap limit per team each match is 13. Weekly fees are $30 per team. Coaching is allowed and skill level 2’s and 3’s get two coaches per game and skill level 4 and higher get 1 coach per game.

Double check the schedule these first few weeks, as we are open to welcoming any late joining teams. The more the merrier, and besides, these are long sessions so if someone misses out, they have to wait a long time to get in for the next session. Schedules are basically alternating weeks, and if your schedule doesn’t allow you to play on a regularly scheduled Friday, there are open Fridays to work out makeups. Contact the league office for the phone number of your opponent to work out make up matches when necessary. Please be sure to give the other team plenty of notice if you can’t play on a particular day, so that they too can make other plans for the start of their weekend.

Membership fees are due within the first 3 weeks. Many of you have already paid. It will show on the score sheet if you owe membership fees for 2021. Everyone is $25 at this time, but if you paid after August 15th of 2021, you will have a prorated fee of $15 when you renew in January of 2022.

Take care of yourselves and we hope to see you all again soon!

Have a great week and Shoot Pool Good! Brian, Jill and Lindsay
