Ladies Captain’s Log, July 23, 2021

This is the final week of the Spring Session 2020. LONGEST SESSION EVER! Next week will start playoffs. We will post a playoff newsletter for the first week of playoffs. While the City Championships are complete, we do still need to see who will win first place and playoffs and win end of session prize money and awards.

Congratulations to the 5 teams that will be representing the San Diego APA in the Ladies 8 Ball Championships at the Poolplayer Championships at the Westgate in August. Here are the 5 teams:

On Cue-T Starlets- Theresa Dimapilis, Frances Tiumalu, Mona Manu, Alice Carr and Fay Meitz

Side 8’s- Jessica Youngs, Michelle Jennings, Helen Mikamo-Yamasaki, Sherri Saunders and Bermellyn Imamura

The Rackettes- Sandi Specht, Debbie Beckwith, Sarah Ciez, Erin Shulman and Stephanie Brown

The Hot Flashes!!!- Debra Lopez, Jackie Lisle, Jodie Macalos, Lynn Goodner and Oriana Loza

Not A Cue- Ginger Beedie, Dawn Dee Gallegos-Elliott, Keri Ciesielski, Michelle Potter and Carolyn Testa

The dates for the Ladies 8 Ball Championships are August 8-12. We wish all of these teams the best of luck. Take home first place, please!

Minis will be going on in Las Vegas from August 5-14 for anyone interested in going out to watch the action. You must be paid up in membership fees for 2021, must have a minimum of 20 scores in 8 Ball or 9 Ball in the last 4 years and you must have a paper or digital membership card to produce at the tournament site in order to compete in minis. Membership fees must be paid before the event starts in order to be eligible for minis.

The next Ladies division session begins September 3rd. Enjoy your time off and we will see you for the start of the new session soon.

In case you missed it, Jill and I will be leaving San Diego at the end of September. We are moving to Illinois to be closer to my parents. Liza Gazmen and Scot Burnell will be taking over the league. They are already League Operators for the South Orange County APA, and many of you already know Liza. I’ve known Liza since before 2000 and we have the utmost respect for both of their professionalism and their ability to run an APA league. They will be very busy transferring the South Orange County league, selling their house and moving to San Diego, but they will be at the Blast tournament to meet some of you. While the Ladies division won’t be competing in the Blast, many of you may qualify on an 8 Ball or 9 Ball team. Even if you don’t qualify, come on out and see us and meet the new League Operators.

Jill and I would like to take this time to thank all of you for your participation in APA and in this Ladies 8 Ball division. We’d especially like to thank Brandy Pamintuan for helping us keep these divisions going. She’s the one who helped us get this Ladies league going and she has been the backbone in keeping it running all of this time. You all mean a lot to us and it’s going to be very hard to give up all of the amazing friendships we’ve made with many of you and to be so far away from our pride and joy. It’s been a pleasure to serve as the League Operators for the San Diego APA for the last 25 years. Jill does have two sons that live here in San Diego, so we have plenty of reasons to come back to San Diego when we can. The first time might be after that first winter snowfall in Illinois. Brrrrr!!

Be sure to register your team for the Fall Session if you haven’t done so already! End of session prize money will be paid out as soon as playoffs are completed.

Playoffs are cheaper than normal weekly league fees, and the Stripe app won’t let you pay the cheaper amount. We will mail out an invoice to each playoff team to the player than normally pays the team fees so that you can use a credit or debit card to pay the correct amount for your playoff match. See the playoff newsletter for the correct playoff team fees. Good luck in playoffs!

Have a great week and Shoot Pool Good! Brian, Jill and Lindsay

Having A Shot Watched - Rule of the Week
10/13/25 - 5:00 pm
Situation: After shooting a close shot the other team stops me and says they had a 3rd party watch it and called it bad. I was not aware somebody was watching and I think it was good, is it ball in hand for my opponent? No, the other team should have stopped you first and then you both need to agree on the 3rd party watching the shot. Failure to do so will result in the call going to the shooter
Moving Ball In Hand - Rule of the Week
10/6/25 - 5:00 pm
Situation: My opponent has ball in hand, while placing the cue ball for their shot they move the cue ball with the tip of their cue, isn't this a foul? No, even after having addressed the cue ball a player may, if not satisfied with the placement, make further adjustments with their hand, cue stick or any other reasonable piece of equipment. There is no documented rule against using the tip of the
