There will be a brief meeting prior to the Tournament that will NOT be a substitue for reading this notification.

APA Paper Scoring 8B

This is a Single Modified Elimination Bracket. Each team will have the opportunity to PLAY twice, but not necessarily LOSE twice. The match start times are APPROXIMATE. Matches will start WHEN CALLED - which means teams should not leave the tournament location. There are 22 eligible teams in this event with 2 BYEs. The BYEs were awared to the Big & Lil' Dawg teams. Please pay close attention to the approximate start times above each round in the bracket (link is above).

ONLY PLAYERS FROM YOUR 2024 FALL 8B ROSTER ARE ELIGIBLE TO COMPETE & MUST HAVE PLAYED A MINIMUM 4 MATCHES IN THE REGULAR FALL SESSION.

You may find your opponent and their roster by going into your app under NW Dallas County and clicking ALL DIVISIONS. Make sure you are viewing the FALL 2024 session. Please note - EVERY player will compete at the HIGHER of their Skill Level at the end of the FALL Session, or, their current skill level. NO EXCEPTIONS.

Tri-Annuals is a continuation of regular league play-offs and therefore is not subject to some of the more restrictive rules of a World Qualifier.
Which means when space allows, a reasonable number of team members may sit with their teams. The non-shooting players should refrain from having converstations of any kind loudly enough to be heard by the competing players. Please be aware of your surroundings at all times so that your movement does not interfer with the players in any way.

  • For this event, there will be limited practice tables. You may practice on designated tables once play begins. The Tournament Director may ask you or your team to vacate the area if it becomes too congested or is otherwise distracting to others. If you are directed to relocate, do so immediately. Failure to comply will result in the initiation of Tournament Sportsmanship Violations.
  • Common players are permitted to play in this event, even when facing their shared teams, without giving up their ability to move on with either team.
  • ALL APA rules governing 8-Ball are in effect.
  • Skill Levels can and typically do move in-between rounds, either up or down. Pay close attention to the skill levels of your players at the start of each round to avoid accidentally breaking the 23-Rule.

Tri-Annuals is a Tournament with many teams to coorodinate, so certain time management considerations are being utilized, such as:

  • Only ONE time out per rack per player, regardless of skill level.
  • Sudden Death will be implemented at 3 1/2 hours past match start time. If matches are running late, subsequent rounds may go into Sudden Death sooner. If that becomes necessary, teams will be advised prior to the start of the affected round. All teams in that round will have the same amount of time for regular play prior to Sudden Death. Sudden Death will start in the first individual match AFTER Sudden Death is called - meaning you finish out the full individual match in progress first, and then subsequent matches are in SD.
  • Time guidelines for starting on time, putting up players, and game play shooting are critical to later rounds starting on time. Intentional slow play will not be tolerated and is subject to Tournament Sportsmanship Violations.
  • No electronic earbuds may be used at the table, except for medically necessary hearing aids. Non-electronic foam earbuds are permitted, as long as you ensure you can hear your opponent if they would like to have a close hit watched.
SPECIAL NOTE ABOUT TEAMS THAT DO NOT ADVANCE TO THE WORLD QUALIFIER FROM THIS EVENT:
6 Winners will advance to the 8BWQ - THREE from the winner's side and THREE from the loser's side.
The non-advancing teams from the final round on both the winner's and the loser's side will be invited to the Best of the Rest tournament for a last chance spot in the 2025 8BWQ.*

If the Big Dawg and/or Lil'Dawg teams do not advance, they will be invited to participate in the next session's Tri-Annual, provided they remain in the top 50% of their division in the next session.*

* Any team invited to a BOTR and/or a next-session Tri-Annual must meet all WQ eligibility requirments associated with qualified teams and must remain in good standing with NW Dallas County APA.
