REMINDERS and INFORMATION

April 19, 2025 12:04 AM

by APA of South Charlotte

We'd like to take the time cover some topics of importance that have been raised recently and that every Team Captain and player should be aware of. To most of you, this post will only serve as a reminder. But to others, this will be new information that you need to be aware of. If any of these situations come up during league play, now you will have an additional source of reference to show your opponent should they not be adhering to these basic rules and suggestions.

Speed up your matches:

With some matches not being completed until after midnight, here are some rules, tips and suggestions to make sure everyone is being considerate of other people's time:

  • Start matches on time or better yet before 7:00 if both teams are ready.
  • Captains should have an idea of who might be playing next and go find that player and let them know they will be or might be up next before the current match ends. That way they can do what is necessary for them to start their match (wash hands, use restroom, smoke, get a beverage, pray or meditate 😁, etc.)
  • The average shot time from the time the cue ball stops rolling until the time the cue ball is struck again should be 30 seconds (A little quicker for simple shots and a little longer for more difficult shots). Players should never take more than 45 seconds to shoot.
  • Keep TOs to a minimum of 1 minute or less.
  • If tables are available and the Host Location allows it, split onto open tables.

Having matches that start at 7:00 pm or a little before 7:00 pm and finish by 11:00 pm should be the norm, not the exception and if everone involved in the match is making a concerted effort to follow these rules, tips and suggestions, we can make this a reality.

Replay rule:

Most players and captains are aware of the Replay Rule and all that it entails by now. But there are still some out there that are not fully aware of the intent and correct application of the rule. The rule itself is meant to occasionally help teams out that are short on players on a given night and to reduce or eliminate the need for make-up matches and forfeits. However, some teams are intentionally or unintentionally using the Replay Rule to gain an advantage over their opponent. Listed below are some key facts regarding the Replay Rule:

  • It is up to the team with 5 players to allow or disallow the use of a replay by their opponent. In most cases, if the replay is executed properly, the team with 5 players will allow the replay. They may be short-handed in the future and would like the team they are playing to allow them to replay. Also many players do not wish to pay for a forfeit when there is an opportunity to play the match and also forfeits do not count as matches played which could jeapordize eligibility.
  • Teams should let the other team know their need to replay as soon as possible, no later than prior to the end of the 3rd match unless unavoidable.
  • All players that have played matches the night of for the team that needs to replay should be available as an option for the team allowing the replay. Again, unless it was unavoidable or one of the options causes the replaying team to break the 23 HC rule.

Adding players:

  • If you are adding a player to the roster or replacing a player with a different player, please inform the opposing captain as soon as possible so that captain can plan his or her strategy while being aware of all of the options available for you to play. The oppsing captain has every right to refuse a player being added after the 1st match is underway.

As always, contact the League Office or your Division Rep with questions, input, or further information.
