We want to address the term “sandbagging,” because it is often misunderstood.
Sandbagging is the intentional act of playing below one’s true ability, such as deliberately missing shots, adding unnecessary innings, or throwing games, in order to manipulate a handicap.
It is not the same as a player performing well, breaking and running, or successfully playing safeties in tough situations. A player executing strong offense or defense is competing at their best, ‼️which is the opposite of sandbagging‼️
It’s important that we use the term accurately. Labeling a player as a sandbagger is a serious claim, and it should be used only when there is clear evidence of intentional manipulation. Not simply because a player had a standout performance.
