October 23-26, 2025 - Westgate Casino & Resort, Las Vegas
The Southwest Challenge (SWC) occurs in Las Vegas twice a year, once for 8-Ball in the Spring and again for 9-Ball in the Fall. These events bring together members from several different APA League areas in the Southwestern United States. Teams of three meet at the Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino for a weekend of fun and competition.
Three-Person Tournaments
The main event is a tournament where teams compete with a unique "rotating shooting order" that gives all members of the team an equal opportunity to play. Each team must declare their shooting order when submitting entry forms before the tournament. Teams must rotate through their rosters during the tournament, keeping the same shooting order (rather than posting and counter-posting as in weekly league play). This forces teams to rely on all teammates to help them advance through the tournament and may create some interesting match-ups with surprising results!
2025 Costs:
$666* a team which includes: 1 ROOM FOR 3 NIGHTS, GREEN FEES & COMPUSPORT ACCESS, TOURNAMENT ENTRY FEE
For the 2025 9-ball main event, these are the requirements for each team:
- Team Skill Level Limit: 15 at time of entry
- Only one SL 7, 8, or 9 allowed.
- Must have 10 matches in 8- or 9-Ball by the entry deadline
- Must be on an active roster for 2025 Summer/Fall West LA roster
- ALL skill level one players allowed, male or female
- Skill Levels are determined at the entry deadline (skill level freeze date)
- If a player is only established in 8-Ball (does not have ten 9-Ball scores), then they must play at one skill level higher than their 8-Ball skill level.
- If a player does not have recent 9-Ball scores, and is currently a higher skill level in 8-Ball, then he/she will be evaluated and may be required to play at a higher skill level.
- Modified Single Elimination format
- Each team must declare their shooting order prior to entry into the tournament. (Player 1 shoots first match - Player 2 shoots second match. If the match goes 2-0, Player 3 shoots first in the next round)
- Every round is a race to two matches, 1 point per win.

MiniMania Tournaments
In addition to the main event, all active players in the participating areas can enter mini-tournaments throughout the weekend. Entry fees range from $10-20 with 100% cash payback! Tournaments may have up to 8 or 16 or 32 on a board, range in 8-ball and 9-ball formats, for singles and doubles teams, and may be tierd by Skill Level or open to all Skill Levels. If you're not playing in the main event, current APA members can still participate for a nominal the southwest region green fee since all tables are open throughout the entire event!
