There has been some questions regarding Push Outs in 9 ball.
What Exactly is a Push Out?
The push out is an additional shot given to the player who just completed the initial break shot. It allows you to "push" the cue ball into a new position without needing to contact any other balls.
On a push out, the only requirement is to make contact with the cue ball using your cue stick. You do not need to drive the cue ball into another object ball or rail. This gives you much more control over the cue ball and flexibility to position it where you want.
Push-outs are fairly standard in pro events and in the U.S. Amateur Championship; however, they are not allowed in APA handicapped competition. Masters Divisions are non-handicapped and follow U.S. Amateur Championship rules; therefore, the push-out is allowed, and any balls pocketed on a push-out will be spotted.
