Wizard’s Sports Café
Doors Open at 11am – Play Begins at 12 noon
PLEASE READ ALL OF THE ELIGIBILITY RULES PRIOR TO REGISTERING YOUR TEAM!
ELIGIBILITY:
The Destination Tournament is open ONLY to the teams who played in Divisions 011 (Monday), or 051/851 (Friday) at Wizard’s in the 24-25 League Year, specifically the Spring Session. These divisions paid $60 in weekly team fees ($10 more than standard teams) in order to fund the Destination prize.
Your SPRING roster will be you competing roster, regardless of where players are playing in Summer, so long as all players are still active in NW Dallas County. UPDATED 7/9/25 @ 12:30 PM: Players who sat out Summer MAY still be elgibile if they are on a submitted Fall Roster and committed to play in NW Dalla APA in Fall.
SUBSTITUTIONS:
UPDATED 7/9/25 @ 12:30 PM: Teams are permitted up to 3 substitute players, PROVIDED those players were on an active DESTINATION team (listed above) in the Spring 2025 Session – OR - if they were NOT on a Spring Roster, if they played BOTH Summer and Fall 2024 they are eligible. Substitutes may only play on another team if they did not play on a participating Spring team.
This is not an OPEN trade opportunity. If your Destination team is playing, you cannot substitute for a different team. If you want to play, you must play on your original team.
FORMAT AND RULES OF PLAY:
The 2025 Destination Tournament, as with Destination Tournaments in the past, is an 8-Ball tournament consisting of a Round Robin Group portion followed by a single elimination Knockout portion. Other than the modifications listed here, all other APA 8-Ball rules apply.
The total number of participating teams will determine the size and the number of “groups” (or cells) as well as the number of rounds played in the Round Robin portion of the tournament.
In each Round, teams will each play 5 players from their roster. The captains will flip to determine who declares their full list of 5 players first. The winner of the flip can declare first or pass that to the other team. A team’s 5 players are listed in ascending order (lowest to highest), then the other team presents their 5 players in the same order. Where there are 2 or more players of the same skill level, the team can put them up in any order, but that order is set and locked prior to the first match.
Play begins with the lowest skilled players. Those players do NOT lag for the break, they will flip for it (this is to save time since this is a timed tournament). These players play ONE rack. The winner of the rack gets ONE point for their team. The second rack is played in the same manner, with the teammate of the winner of the previous rack owning the break (no more coin flip, that is only for the first match).
Each Round has a time limit of one hour. Teams must be in their 5th rack by the time that hour is up, or any matches not started are forfeited by each team (no points earned by either).
IMPORTANT: Once play has begun in the Round Robin, all teams are REQUIRED to finish the Round Robin phase, regardless of point standings. Even if it is not possible for a team to advance from this phase, we do not want any other team to advance on a forfeit – so do NOT sign up your team to participate if all members are not willing to finish!
POINT STRUCTURE & TIE BREAKER:
1 point for each individual rack won
-1 point per player who has not played 2+ matches by the end of Round Robin
-1/2 point per round per player under 8 present on the roster
When two teams are tied after the Round Robin, the tie-breaker goes to the team that won the most individual matches when they met in the RR.
When three teams are tied after the Round Robin, the process is to find the first meeting between the first 2 of the teams and follow the process for 2 teams. The “winner” of that tie-breaker is then compared against the next team in the same manner. The “winner” of that second step is declared the winner of the 3-way tie.
THE KNOCKOUT BRACKETS:
After the Round Robin, the winners of the cells/groups will be seeded against each other in a single elimination bracket and play continues with the same rules until one winner is determined.
Again, the number of teams advancing out of the Round Robin into the Knockout Brackets is determined by the overall number of teams participating in the tournament.
“DIY” GUIDELINES:
This is a Do It Yourselves Destination package! Whether you decide to go to Hawaii or Hoboken, it’s up to you! Here are the key points:
1st place = $5,000 max value
2nd place = $2,500 max value
Teams submit their proposed itinerary (destination, dates/duration, accommodations, and transportation) to the League Office no earlier than October 1, 2025 and no later than December 31, 2025*. Travel does not need to be completed by December 31, it just needs to be booked by that date.
Teams should make every effort to plan a trip together. This is a team prize and is not intended to be divided up and used for 8 different destinations for individual players.
Upon approval, the League Office will pay for the prize portion of the itinerary. Airfare can be paid directly by the League Office, while Hotel Accommodations will need to be secured by a team member’s form of payment and the office will reimburse the player for that amount upon receipt of invoice or copy of booking with cost breakdown. This is simply to ensure the League Office’s card is not tied to incidentals or potential damages.
This is not a cash prize, so proof of booking needs to be submitted to the office prior to payments or reimbursements occurring.
* Teams should make every effort to travel together. This is a team prize and is not intended to be divided up and used for 8 different destinations for individual players. However, if teams have not agreed upon a destination and itinerary by December 31, 2025, each team member will be given a Southwest Airlines Gift Card. $500 per person for the 1st place team, and $250 per person for the 2nd place team.
