Hurricane Milton has offered multiple timelines at various intensities for Jacksonville this week, but currently, at 11 AM on Wednesday, we are thankful that the National Weather Service suggests local conditions will be mild during league play tonight.
We know not all players are in the same situation and that what may be in the comfort zone for some is concerning for others. With that said, league play will continue tonight, Wednesday, October 9th, as scheduled, but the following accommodations are extended for league play tonight only, for any teams that have issues fielding.
Please complete Option 1 before relying on Option 2 (makeups). Remember, the name of the game is being kind and accommodating.
Option 1: Play Someone Twice
Play all players you have available and play someone twice to minimize the number of makeups needed. Communicate to your opponent early if you need to play someone twice. All bylaws related to playing someone twice remain in effect.
Bylaws highlights include:
(1) the opponent chooses who to play twice,
(2) players with less than 10 lifetime matches are not eligible to play twice,
(3) you can’t play the same player twice in both 8-ball and 9-ball in double jeopardy divisions if there are other players that can play twice and keep the team within the 23-Rule.
Option 2: Makeups
Complete makeup matches by October 23rd. Makeup matches can be cumbersome. Please follow these best practices to ensure they are completed fairly and in a timely manner.
Makeup Best Practices:
- There’s no reason to make a player drive to league if you know you won’t be able to field all five matches. If you are aware of the need for a makeup ahead of time, contact your opponent before league (text us if you need a phone number). (Note: This isn’t required to have a makeup approved, but it is courteous, and we strongly encourage it if you know ahead of time that playing someone twice will be insufficient).
- Do not plan to complete makeup matches during league play as table and player availability is limited.
- Throw the players for the makeup match(es) according to which team should put up next and declare both players in the Scorekeeper app.
- The team able to field and not requiring makeups should propose two times that work for the player they have thrown. The team needing the makeups must choose one of the two options.
- Text the chosen time for the makeup to the League Office. Failure to show up for the makeup match will result in the non-showing team forfeiting the match unless extenuating circumstances are addressed with the League Office prior to the agreed upon time.
Please be considerate and understanding of the choices your opponents make regarding their own safety and ability to participate in league play tonight. We know some teams will arrive to league thinking they are able to field and that the situation might change unexpectedly. Be accommodating to one another and work together to find a good solution. Teams will not forfeit due to hurricane related challenges in fielding.
And finally, at this time, league for tomorrow, Thursday, October 10th is still scheduled for play. We will make an announcement around noon tomorrow concerning Thursday play.
