GMAPA - SPRING 2026 League Night Expectations

February 3, 2026 11:06 PM

by Green Mountain APA

PLEASE READ YOUR APA BYLAWS!! THEY CAN BE FOUND ON YOUR APA APP!!!

Please encourage your players to do the same!!!

We are using the APA Scorekeeper app!!

Please be patient when starting a match. If you click multiple times, it will start the 2nd, or 3rd match. If this happens, please note it in the comment section at the end.
How to Keep Score in 8-Ball Using the APA Scorekeeper App
How to Keep Score in 9-Ball Using the APA Scorekeeper App
Team fees and greens fees are due the night of play. No exceptions!
New players must be taught to score on paper. This is an APA rule.
Please remeber to have an extra BLANK scoresheet available in case there are issues with the app.
In the event you need the paper scoresheet, DO NOT submit the scoresheet on your app. Bring the scoresheet home with you and complete the input after it comes back online. In the event you need to use paper, please be sure to email a copy of that scoresheet to APAGREENMOUNTAIN@GMAIL.COM. This email is also in the memo of your scoresheet.
All information must be written on the paper scoresheet for that match. Player, #, skill level, innings, safeties, etc. (100% filled out for those matches)

**** REMEMBER: ****

  • Both teams must mark the 9S, 9BR, 8B, 8BR. If both teams do not mark these, the player will not get credit for it.
  • Rate your opponent.
  • Leave any necessary comments. Keep in mind, notes need to be appropriate.
  • SUBMIT COMPLETED MATCHES.

Concerning the double-up rule

**Teams may double ONE player if needed. The double up, or ghost rule, may be used as often as a team needs. No more than once per league night.

**The double-up must happen last.

**If a team is short on players, the match will continue, doubling the available player that will keep the team under 23. If a make-up match is still needed, it will be played at a later date. The reason for this is because we are very limited with availability for make ups in every division. If we cannot get the “need to complete” makeup matches a little more under control, I will have to remove the opportunity for make ups to happen. Most league areas do not allow double ups or make ups. Please see the double up procedure in your GMAPA bylaws.

**Players available for the double up may not leave until the double up player(s) has been declared. You risk forfeiting.

Full team and greens fees are always due regardless of forfeit.

As a courtesy, I suggest letting the opposing team know you need to double as soon as possible and the opposing team choosing the double-up player so people can leave. Just my suggestion.

If using the app, DO NOT SUBMIT INCOMPLETE MATCHES!!

Things that have not changed, but here are reminders:

To be a Captain you must agree to the following:

~ Have a cell phone.

~ Have the APA app installed with notifications turned on.

~ Respond to texts and calls from the LO and other Captains in a timely manner.

~ Agree that you are responsible for the team. (Communications and their actions.)

**No forfeits the first 4 weeks of play.

**No Makeups will be allowed the last two weeks of play.

**No doubling up the last week of play!

**The mindset surrounding team fees:

When a team joins an APA league night, they are assigned their share of the dues for that session… The team fee is split up weekly… The team fee is then split up nightly by team members. The team fee is what the TEAM owes for participating in League. PLEASE STOP MAKING INDIVIDUAL PLAYERS PAY TWICE AS MUCH BECAUSE THEY DOUBLE. The team fee should be split evenly by the team.

Teams should be avoiding the double up rule altogether, however, it is only there to help with forfeits. Captains should be communicating that the team will need to double, and players should be prepared to adjust their part of the team fee. This includes greens fees where applicable.

Bonus points

These points are not automatically awarded to teams. Bonus points are given to reward teams for completing tasks to ensure complete and correct data is entered into the system, in a timely manner. This is to ensure players receive the credit and awards for playing AND to help ensure that sandbagging does not occur. As stated in the message center of your scoresheet, "If I have to go looking for the information, it defeats the purpose." See your GMAPA Bylaws for the details and expectations. This is especially important for when I'm out of town and do not have access to a physical scoresheet.

**Any match postponement, re-schedule, or make-up must be approved by the League Operator FIRST. If you do not contact the League Operator for approval, matches will be forfeited, and full team fees are due. Both Captains need to contact the League Office.

**After the match starts, teams are to have their next player declared before the previous match ends. This is to help minimize the time between matches. It is ONE MINUTE for each team to declare their next player. The match is to start immediately after the second player is declared. See page #25, Forfeits, in your OTM.

You are expected to follow all speed of play guidelines.

Once the match starts, play is to be continuous.

**Any changes to the rules and expectations will be made here and announced verbally (in person).**

These are the expectations if you agree to play League. If you join APA, you agree to those rules. Please do not join the APA and complain about the rules. It takes the fun out of for everyone.
When we lose, we will not belittle our opponent. There is no need to make yourself feel better by making them feel bad for beating you or your teammate. If you lost, you lost. Shake hands, say good game, and move on.

*** Very Important!! ***

No player should ever be giving a Host Location a hard time about what they want or expect from us. If there is an issue, talk to me. Without our Host Locations, we don’t have a place to play. This is a reminder to conduct yourself in a manor that is appropriate.

ROSTER EDITS:

Every GMAPA division should be available for you to see. This includes the schedule, qualified teams, and team rosters.

If your team qualified last session, please verify that it is marked “Q”, for qualified.

Rosters are available to be edited. Any player can be added or removed, except for the Captain/Co-Captain, until week #4. If a Captain or Co-Captain needs to be moved or replaced, you’ll need to contact me to do that. I will need the team name, full team number and the player being removed.

After week #4, when you send me roster changes, I will need the team name, full team number, the name of the player, and player number of the person being added to the roster. Please do not wait until last minute for those changes. If you do, I may not be able to help you in time.

WQ Qualified teams must not make roster changes after week #4 or they will lose that qualification.

ALL UNPAID PLAYERS WILL BE REMOVED AFTER THE WEEK #4 NIGHT OF PLAY.

MEMBERSHIPS:

ALL GMAPA MEMBERSHIPS ARE DUE!! No player may participate without a current membership. This includes Masters and Ladies.

Membership dues can be paid via the APA app.

For renewals, click the gold bar at the top of your screen in your app.

Brand new members will need to go to poolplayers.com, sign up, and claim their account. Once they have a player number, they are good to play.

If a player from another league area wishes to play, they should contact me to get them set up for league.

PREPLAY MATCHES:

Most divisions will have a pre-play match. This is because we took two weeks off at the end of December. There seemed to be some confusion about which match is the pre-play. If your division has a pre-play, there will be weeks at the end of your session schedule with the same date. The pre-play is the VERY LAST week of the session.

This match is to be played before week #10 of your session. It can be played using the same bylaws as a regular league night. Where people went wrong last time was that they played both of those weeks and often doubled players for the last week of regular play and shouldn’t have. That cannot happen this time.

I was asked why we have pre-plays. The answer is that if I just make the schedule with no time off for holidays or events, those matches would just turn into make-up matches, that now have a two-week time limit. Sort of like six in one hand, half dozen in the other... with a two-week limit. I would rather have the pre-play like it is and have ten weeks to do it in.

MAKEUP MATCHES:

I try to plan around most major holidays or if I know there is a big event happening. If a team needs to postpone, please follow the guidelines set in the GMAPA bylaws (Rescheduling matches). It is VERY important that this procedure be followed by BOTH CAPTAINS!

Postponing a match because your best roster can’t play is not an acceptable reason to postpone league. The expectation is that league play will happen on the scheduled league night. Also the reason we have the double-up rules.

These same rules apply for teams that may need a scoresheet released early. This usually happens when teams or players are gone for regional or national events.

VTPB Division MAKE-UP MATCH CALENDAR:

There will now be a calendar at VTPB to schedule make-ups. The calendar will be marked with unavailable dates. No League play is to happen on those days, don’t ask. All make-ups are to be completed within two weeks of the original date of play. After a make-up is scheduled, any team that “no-shows” will forfeit the match. If teams schedule a match and both teams “no-show”, it will be a double forfeit.

TEAM FEE ENVELOPES:

TEAM FEES AND GREENS FEES ARE DUE ON THAT NIGHT OF PLAY.

Not all divisions have the same process for turning in team fees.

Barre – Both divisions – same process. Team fees in an envelope and then brought to VTPB. Greens fees turned in to the bartender.

Lamoille – Both divisions – same process. Team fees will be paid by check or money order, written in blue or black ink. If a team plays both nights, one check is preferred. Greens fees turned in to the bartender.

St. Albans – Both divisions – same process as the end of last session. Both teams in one envelope, filled out completely. Given to Michael or Celia.

Vermont Pool And Bar – NEW PROCESS – One envelope for the two opposing teams. Information on the front is to be filled out completely and dropped into the APA box at the end of the night. Greens fees are put in the VTPB safe, using the appropriate envelope.

If the envelopes are not available, use a blank scoresheet like the old days. The Host location will not provide envelopes.

CROSSROADS – NEW PROCESS – All team and greens fees will be turned in to Andy at the end of the night.

Unless it is a mailed envelope, PLEASE DO NOT WRITE IN PEN OR SEAL THE ENVELOPES.

QUALIFIED TEAMS:

This is a courtesy reminder…

As a qualified team, you may make changes to your roster within the first four weeks of the session without losing the qualification. This includes splitting the team, 4 and 4, to make two qualified teams, as long as all 8 players were qualified with the team.

Qualified teams must be it the top 50% of the standings in that division. If your team fails to do this, your team could lose its eligibility. Any questions about this, ask me.

As I familiarize myself, and you all, with our new playoff structure, I misinterpreted one of the new ways to qualify and who gets the end of session awards. There are some teams who became qualifed during the summer session that were not marked as such. You should be now. That typo will be fixed and made clear with the new league year bylaws (summer).

PLEASE LEAVE YOUR DRAMA AT THE DOOR.

Creating drama and “pot stirring” will not be allowed!

READ YOUR GREEN MOUNTAIN APA BYLAWS AND THE APA OFFICIAL TEAM MANUAL (OTM). Know the difference!!

  • The schedule for your division is posted on your APA app. This does include playoff dates.
  • St. Albans, Lamoille, CROSSRAODS, and Barre playoffs are held on their regular league night.
  • All VTPB playoffs are held on the date specified. First round as close to 5:30pm, 2nd round to follow.

COVID-19 / ILLNESS IN GENERAL

If you are feeling under the weather, experiencing a scratchy throat, coughing, runny nose, fever, upset stomach, or allergies, please do not attend League. I suggest you take a COVID test.

If you tested positive for COVID, please do not attend League!

If you attended League, or a League function within a few days of testing positive, I ask that you notify me as soon as possible so that I can notify the necessary people. If you choose, you can notify your team/people to let them know. If you do not feel comfortable doing that, I will notify them. I DO NOT give out people’s names when I contact teams and players so, please don’t ask.

Additionally, if you share the same living space with someone, dating someone, or have continuous close contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID, but you are negative, please wear a mask if you wish to attend League.

This may be different than your work policy. This is what we will follow for League.

I get that you really want to play in “that tournament” or league night is your night out. But I need to emphasize that the health and wellbeing of everyone in the GMAPA is more important than you participating in “that tournament” or making League

I do realize that sometimes we do not know we are sick until after we’ve been to League. That is different than showing up knowing you are sick.

I trust that all players are being honest.

I would also like to add that this doesn't just apply to COVID. If you are sick, please stay home.

If you have any questions or concerns about how GMAPA deals with COVID, please ask me.

I'm proud of all of you for doing what you have been asked to do!!
