We are exploring the interst in starting a Baton Rouge APA masters division in the River area. For those who are unfamiliar with the Masters format....
The APA Masters division is a higher-level, non-handicapped format designed for stronger players who want true, open competition. Unlike standard APA 8-Ball or 9-Ball leagues, Masters has no skill levels, no 23-rule team cap, and no handicap system — everyone plays straight up. Teams consist of four players max with three players participating in a team match.
A typical league night includes three individual matches in a combination of 8 and 9 ball similar to the US Amateur rules. Players flip with winner choosing the opening break or the opening format (8 or 9 ball). A match consists of a maximum of five games of 8-ball and eight games of 9-ball in a race to 7 games. Once a format is started it must be finished before advancing to the next format.
In the master's format jump cues are allowed (but house rules apply).
