Synopsis…
Tri Cups
The Spring 2020 Tri Cups conclude the 2019/2020 league year and finalize the teams participating in the 2019/2020 portion of our World Qualifiers. Rosters for this event must be the same roster you had for the spring 2020 session as this event is technically an extension of playoffs from that session. Roster changes are not permitted. As in playoffs, double play is not permitted.
The Fall 2020 Tri Cup is the first of only two qualifying events for teams to advance to the 2020/2021 World Qualifier. The second will be from the spring session we are just beginning. However one exception for this fall session playoffs and tri cup event is that players are required to have only attained a minimum of three matches with each participating team to be considered qualified to participate. As in playoffs, double play is not permitted.
World Qualifier
This will actually be two tournaments within one. The teams from the 2019/2020 league year will compete in one event for 4 8-Ball spots and 3 9-Ball spots to the World Pool Championships in Vegas. Teams from the 2020/2021 league year will compete in a separate event for a yet undetermined number of spots to the World Pool Championships. Once teams advance to the WPC, they will all be participating in the same event.
Teams that advance to the 2020/2021 event will be held to the same standards as normal including spring and summer 2021 participation, maintaining four original members, four plays minimum for eligibility with the team in the spring as well as 10 lifetime matches. Roster for this event will be the spring 2021 roster.
Teams that qualified for the 2019/2020 World Qualifiers must maintain at minimum four original members and the roster will be comprised of those players who were on the roster during the spring 2020 session. Any roster changes will be required to be approved by the APA National office but must adhere to the following guidelines:
The Spring 2020 roster will still need four original members from when they qualified.
The incoming players must have 20 scores (including Spring 2021 scores) , in that format, in the last two years.
The incoming players must be the same SL or lower than the player(s) they are replacing.
Roster changes must be out of necessity and covid related. Not just because the team wants a new roster.
We will produce rosters for teams to review from the spring 2020 session and post online.
Any requests for roster changes must be to the league office in writing and emailed to dvolz@apaleagues.com stating the team name, captains name, person requesting the change, the player(s) requested, including skill level) to be removed along with an explanation for the change. Also included in same correspondence must be the name of the player(s), including skill level to be added. These requests must be received in the league office by April 16, 2021. There will be no exceptions to the method of request (email) or the deadline.
Email request Format
Team Name: XXXXX
Captain: XXXXX
Request submitted by: XXXXXX
Player to be removed - explanation
Joe Joe Scratchalot (SL5) - Joe Joe got the Covid and lost both arms.
Replace with: Hebetta ThanJoeJoe (SL5)
Teams may qualify and participate in both the 2019/2020 and 2020/2021 World Qualifiers.
If both rosters are exactly the same and a team wins a spot to the WPC in both events, only one team will be allowed to advance. The second team would receive a portion of travel assistance with remaining assistance and slot to the runner up.
If rosters are different, even by one player, then teams do have the opportunity to advance in both events. However teams should be aware that they can only carry 4 common players to the Championships so their rosters may be severely weakened if both teams were to advance.
