League Update - COVID - 19

March 15, 2020 at 10:43 PM

by Baton Rouge APA

NOTICE: Out of an abundance of caution for our Baton Rouge APA Family, we ask any members who have returned from travel outside of the United States, or to heavily affected areas of the U.S. in the last 14 days, not to come to League until at least 14 days after your return.

Please take note of the CDC’s recommendations relating to people who are in an at-risk group, and remember it is ok not to come to League. Here is the CDC’s information form for anybody to reference:

https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/specific-groups/high-risk-complications.html

Nationally & locally, we understand your concerns about personal safety at League, and if you feel unsafe, you should stay home, but remember some views may not be the same as every other Team APA member, and should not supersede the opinions and views of others who believe League should continue. For those of you who are concerned or questioning the cancellation of League play, take note that we are operating according to “gathering restrictions” set forth by our local and state officials and our League takes place in locations that are operating in line with those gathering restrictions.

At this time, League play will continue on as scheduled. If our local government decides to shut down what they consider as non-essential businesses (such as restaurants, bars, pool halls, etc.), then League play in those establishments will be suspended until future notice. If one of our Baton Rouge APA players get tested positive for the Coronavirus, we will suspend League play in the locations that may be infected and possibly throughout our entire League area..

APA means a great deal beyond pool to many of our Team APA members, and in this time of crisis, some may want APA to continue where possible to maintain some normalcy in their lives, and we want to be able to try and offer that as long as we can to our APA family. Also, please remember that, although our League may have the resources to survive a suspension of League play, there are many local businesses and Host Locations that may not. We are trying to make the right decisions based on how it affects our League players as well as our local venues. However, if you have elderly team members (or players with current respiratory issues) who strongly feel that it's a risk to their health to show up for League, please have them stay home and reschedule some of your matches. We hope all of our APA Family will come together to work with each other during this time. We will also do our best to work with those teams and players regarding any make-up matches for these situations.

In the meantime for those of you playing, please remember to take the CDC recommended precautions:

· Wash your hands

· Use hand sanitizer

· Stay home if you aren’t feeling well

· Don’t shake hands before and after matches for the time being

· Cover any coughs/sneezes with their elbows

Please be safe and do not judge others based on a possible difference of opinion. Everybody has their own way of processing challenges and deserves the respect to make their own decisions. We will continue to answer any questions and post these updates as needed. Any specific questions can be emailed to us at dvolz@apaleagues.com and we will try to respond as quickly as time permits.
