APA FALL TRI-ANNUAL - RULES

Tournament Structure

o Single Loss Elimination.

o A match is played until a team mathematically wins.

o Once this happens all play between the two teams must stop and the teams should write “NF” for “Not Finished” on the scoresheet.

o This tournament is continuous play so if you’re on two or more teams, plan accordingly and shoot early on one team and a later match on the other.

Practice Time

Practice is not allowed on any tournament table, except during specified periods, and only with the permission of the Tournament Director.

Head Phones

No Headphones while shooting a match. Non-electronic earplugs are allowed.

Sudden Death

8-Ball Sudden Death is 3 hours and 30 minutes into the start of the match. The rack must be struck in the 5th individual match by the sudden death mark, or all subsequent individual matches will begin with a rack worth two team points. If that two-point rack mathematically wins the team match, the team match will be over; if it does not win the team match, a second rack worth one team point will conclude that individual match. This procedure will continue in each subsequent individual match until a team mathematically wins.

9-Ball Sudden Death is 3 hours into the start of the match. The rack must be struck in the 5th individual match by the sudden death mark, or all subsequent individual matches will begin with all points doubled (two points per ball and four points for the 9ball). This procedure will continue in each subsequent individual match until a team mathematically wins.

All scoresheets must have a start time written in on the scoresheets. Tournament director may tell you the start time to write down and if not, the team captains should enter the start time when the players lag for the break in match #1.

Male Skill Levels

Men are allowed to compete in the Tri-Annuals and World Qualifiers at a minimum skill level “2”. If they make it to Vegas, men will participate at a minimum skill level “3” during the World Pool Championships.

Cue Ball Fouls & Marking the 8-Ball

As a reminder, do not touch the cue ball while it is still rolling. Doing so may result in a foul. Please mark the 8-Ball! If you do not mark the 8-ball and the opposing team calls you out on it, it is a loss of game.

Coaching

Since this is NOT a Higher-Level Tournament, a SL 3 or below may receive 2 coaches per game. SL 4 and above may receive one coaching time out per game. If a coach suggests a time-out, the time-out must be taken. If a player suggests a coach, the coach may decline and no time-out will be charged.

Talking to Players during match

No talking with players while it is their turn at the table. You are allowed to talk to your player in between turns when they are not at the table and in-between racks to offer words of encouragement.

Requesting A Referee

A referee must be called by a TEAM CAPTAIN, COACH, OR CURRENT MATCH PLAYER. The Referee’s decision is final. If a shot is close and a referee or tournament official is not called, the ruling will most likely be in the shooter’s favor.

Senior Level Players

Teams can only use 2 senior level players during a match (skill level 6 and above)

Forfeiting Matches

Forfeits are 3-0 in 8-Ball and 20-0 in 9-Ball. If a player does not finish a match that they started, it will result in a 3-0 forfeit (8-ball) and 20-0 forfeit (9-ball) even if the player accumulated points.

Common Players

If teams meet up in the tournament with common players, the common players must sit out or declare a team (the national office and LO recommend that common players sit out) If they choose to sit out they cannot play, act as captain, coach or use their skill level toward the 23 -Rule. If a common player chooses to participate and not sit out, they are then declaring a team. Once a team is declared they may not advance with the other team, win or lose, and will become ineligible on the opposing roster.
