Play-Off, Tri-Annual, and World Qualifier Changes

by Tucson APA

All,

Starting this session and league year the APA National Office has helped to implement new guidelines for Play-Offs, Tri-Annuals, and World Qualifiers to help standardize this across all league areas. Some of you may have noticed new By-Laws in your packets that show these changes. If not, please take a moment to look at these. Below, I have highlighted some of the changes. If you have any questions, feel free to contact the league office at 520-370-8656.

Play-Offs:

Play-Offs will now only be one week. So if you win in Play-Offs, you will be qualified for the Tri-Annual (Formerly Big Money) for that session. With this change, There will not be any plaques for winning Play-Offs, only Division Champions will receive plaques. The number of teams eligible for Play-Offs will be dependent on the number of teams in your division. The more teams in the division, the more teams that will participate in Play-Offs.

Tri-Annuals:

With the changes to Play-Offs, this also means more teams in the Tri-Annuals. As the divisions and teams stand now, There will be 17 teams in the 9-Ball Summer Tri-Annual and 20 teams in the 8-Ball Summer Tri-Annual. That means that 10 teams will qualify in each format and 5 teams will win $1000.

World Qualifiers:

Based on current team counts, the World Qualifier for each format will have close to 30 teams participating. This will vary based on teams that may qualify twice. Qualification for these events have changed slightly from previous years. The qualification will no longer pass to the next highest in the standings. Instead it may pass down to the team that they beat in the Tri-Annual.
