The Team Captain is the person listed first on the team roster and is responsible for managing the team. All Team Captains must have a Member Services account to stay updated on all league related details and events. The Team Captain is the team’s point of contact for all communication from the Local League Office and are expected to:
- Have a Member Services account to stay updated on all league related information, weekly scheduled matches, playoff matches, and higher level tournament details.
- Share releveant League information, tournament dates, announcements with the members of their team posted in Member Services, and make sure bonus points are earned. See Bonus Points below.
- Ensure that all rules concerning etiquette, sportsmanship, and eligibility are observed. Refer to the Official Team Manuel (OTM) and the Local ByLaws or contact the Local League Office when in doubt. The OTM now has an official website where you can easily search any rule here: https://rules.poolplayers.com
- Upon arrival at the host location, let the front desk staff know your team name in order to receive 1 rack of pool balls and a table assignment (green fees may apply depending on host location).
- Full Team fees of $55 for 8-Ball Only, $55 for 9-Ball Only, or $110 for Double Jeopardy (8-Ball & 9-Ball) must be sent via Email Money Transfer (EMT) to admin@cpapool.ca with the team name in the EMT description. EMT must be sent by either the Captain or 1 designated player on the team by the end of the night or next day by 11:30am. The Captain or designated player can still collect all fees from everyone by cash or EMT directly to them.
- HOW TO EDIT A ROSTER: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-cufCBkDgLo
TEAMS ALREADY QUALIFIED FOR THE WORLD QUALIFIER (REGIONALS) MUST GET LOCAL LEAGUE OFFICE APPROVAL FOR "ANY" ROSTER CHANGES BEFORE WEEK 4 OF THE SPRING SESSION AND MUST NOT BE MADE ON THE SCOREKEEPER APP. Altering the Spring session roster of a qualified team after week 4 (four) of the Spring Session will result in the team losing its qualification. THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS TO THIS RULE.
BEFORE WEEK 4, only Team Captains can make Roster Changes on the Scorekeeper App.
If you would like to add a brand NEW player, text their First & Last Name, and Date of Birth to the Local League Office at 416-409-9783 at least 3 hours prior to league night OR they can join online at cpapool.ca/join and pay their annual membership fee of $33.90. You can then search their name and add them to your roster.
AFTER WEEK 4, any roster changes must be requested by the Team Captain at least 3 hours prior to league night by texting the Local League Office at 416-409-9783. All members must pay or renew their membership before they can be added.
- All members must pay their annual membership fee of $33.90 before they play their 2nd match or by Week 4 (whichever comes first) otherwise, the system will drop them from the roster. They can rejoin once they've paid their membership fee. If you're a member and don't have a Member Services account setup, please use this link to claim your account: cpapool.ca/claim-account. Contact your League Operator if you need further help.
- The deadline to make roster changes for teams not already qualified for the World Qualifier (Regionals) is around Week 7 (this deadline may vary on a case by case basis). After Week 7, Local League Office approval is required.
- Division Schedules can change with a Bye being filled so please always have your team ready to play with a 48 hour notice. The Local League Office will inform you.
- 3-Point Scoring System: Player A wins with a shutout; they win 3-0. Player A wins, but Player B wins a game, Player A gets 2-0. Player A wins, but Player B makes it to the hill, the split is 2-1.
- Player nickname change request must be sent via a text to the Local League Office directly from the player.
- Please inform your players that it's 20 seconds per shot and 1 minute per timeout. Excessive slow play is not tolerated. If this becomes a problem, sportsmanship warnings and penalties may be enforced. It is highly recommended to start the 1st match as soon as 4 players from your team is present.
If outside racks are being used, permission must be asked to each individual opponent for both players to use it, one player to use it, or neither. For outside cue balls, permission must be asked to each individual opponent for both players to use it or neither. In higher level tournaments, the Tournament Director must be informed.
- If there is an issue during a CPA Toronto/Peel match, all players must try to resolve it in a calm, amicable, and sportsmanship-like manner. It is unacceptable to confront your opponent with aggression or in a rude and unsportsmanship-like manner. Please address any issues with your captain first and they can then speak to the other captain to come to a resolution or discuss it with their player.
Most protests and disputes should be settled immediately by looking up the applicable rule(s) in the OTM or online, and/or through the use of common sense and good sportsmanship.
Please enforce this with your players and avoid a call from the Local League Office which may result in sportsmanship violations, and official warnings to suspensions. If the issue still can't be resolved, please reach out to the Local League Office between 9am to 11pm.
- IMPORTANT! A team that drops out during a session after Week 4 will be required to pay all past dues and the balance they would have owed had they completed the session before they would be allowed to rejoin any CPA/APA League. Don't let this happen to your team. Keep in communication with the Local League Office regarding your intentions in order to avoid disrupting the Division and League. During the last 4 weeks of the session and playoffs, a 2 player minimum is required to show up and play to avoid having to pay the team fee for both teams.
- If your player would like to receive a pin for 8/9 Off the Break and/or 8/9 Break & Run instead of a ticket ballot(s), they must fill out the following form every time they've earned it and if they don’t ever fill out the form, they will automatically be entered into the ticket ballot draw at the end of the League Year (1 pin = 1 ticket ballot): www.cpapool.ca/pin. There are no limits on the number of ticket ballots or pins a player can earn. If they wish to receive a ticket ballot or pin for an accomplishment, make sure it is marked on the Scorekeeper App and recorded in Member Services otherwise, they will not count at the end of the League Year ticket ballot draw.
Requested pins will be dropped off to your host location in a grey CPA envelope within 1-2 weeks with a text confirmation.
- The 23-rule is the cornerstone of the CPA. All 23-Rule violations is enforced automatically by way of the software program. A protest is not required. Teams are not allowed to agree to break this rule. A team playing less than a full match must show that it would not have exceeded the Team Skill Level Limit, if all the matches had been played (OTM Page 33). The penalty for breaking the 23-rule is a loss of all the points won by the offending team. The non-offending team will receive the points they earned plus forfeit points for the match that the violation occurred and for each subsequent match. Don’t let this happen to your team. Make sure you understand the rule and stay within before you put up players. This violation occurs when the balls are broken.
- Senior Skill Level players are those who have a skill level of 6 or higher. Teams may not field more than two Senior Skill Level players in a match. (OTM Page 34)
- If both teams plan to reschedule or pre-play matches due to inclement weather or have conflicts with other pre-qualified CPA/APA obligations, you must notify the Local League Office immediately for a date, time, and location to complete the match(es). All rescheduled or pre-play matches must be completed all together on another day designated by the Local League Office. Without approval, the double-play and/or forfeit option must be used if teams are short a few players.
- Double-play is only allowed for 1 player and teams may only exercise this option four (4) times in a session and may not in the last four (4) weeks of the session or in post session play. The double-play and forfeit options are useful on long weekends where matches cannot be deferred to another day. See below for more details on how to use this option.
- Double-Play: One player may play twice in a team match, only if the team cannot field 5 players due to absentees with the following conditions; The team who is short players must prove that they have another player on their roster (but not available) that could have legally played in place of the player that plays twice and still stay within 23. If they do not, then they must forfeit the last match. If the team can play a player twice, the opponents get to select that player that plays again from the available players. Players that would jeopardize the 23-Rule cannot be selected. Any eligible player who was available during the earlier matches may be selected, so they must remain available or risk forfeiting the match if selected after they left. Teams may only exercise this option 4 (four) times in a session and may not exercise this option in the last 4 (four) weeks of the session or in post session play. This rule is used to aid a team with an unfortunate situation to avoid forfeits and is not to be used out of this context. Team captains must inform the other team of any potential need to play a player twice prior to the start of the 2nd individual match. The double-play match should be played as the last match of the night. Both teams may utilize the double-play on the same night if necessary. In this situation, the team scheduled to put up a player in the 5th match designates their double-play player first. If you are unsure about how to use the Double-Play option, please contact the Local League Office for advice before the start of the match to avoid losing all your points. See examples below:
Example 1: If you play 4 players to 19 (23-19=4). Ask yourself, do you have a 4 or less on your roster that is not there that you COULD have played? If the answer is yes then you can double-play a 4 or less that is there.
Example 2: If you play 4 players to 20 (23-20=3). Ask yourself, do you have a 3 or less on your roster that is not there that you COULD have played? If the answer is yes then you can double-play a 3 or less that is there.
Example 3: If you play 4 players to 21 (23-21=2). Ask yourself, do you have a 2 or less on your roster that is not there that you COULD have played? If the answer is yes then you can double-play a 2 or less that is there.
- Team Captains are responsible for keeping track of the Team's number of Double-plays and Forfeits already used. More than 5 (five) Forfeits will remove the team from the Wild Card Draw. During the playoffs and the last 4 (four) weeks of a session’s regular weekly play, a team cannot forfeit more than 3 (three) individual matches. Teams who do not adhere to this rule may forfeit their eligibility in the Playoffs, Wild Card draw, Tri-Annuals, the World Qualifier (Regionals), and will be given a warning.
- World Qualifier (Regionals) qualified teams must now finish in the top half of their division (points) in the subsequent sessions of the current League year. Teams that do not finish around the top half of their division in the session(s) following qualification are subject to heavy scrutiny of their handicaps and/or loss of eligibility (Around the top half is calculated by adding the 1st place team points + the last place team points and dividing it by 2). The League Operator may have leniency based on factors such as roster changes, skill level movements, was the team the wild card, when/how did they qualify etc.
- All roster changes for qualified teams must be made prior to the team submitting their week 4 (four) scores. Altering the roster of a qualified team after week 4 (four) of the Spring Session will result in the team losing its qualification. THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS TO THIS RULE.
PLAYER ELIGIBILITY
Players must have played at least 4 times with the team during the session to be eligible to play in the Session Playoffs.
All players need a minimum of 6 (six) lifetime matches, 4 (four) of which must be played during the session to be eligible to play in Tri-Annuals. Matches played during that session, and Playoffs count toward the minimum requirement.
Original players need a minimum of 10 (ten) lifetime matches, 4 (four) of which must be played during the Spring Session with the qualified team to be eligible to play in the World Qualifier (Regionals). Matches played during the Spring Session, Playoffs, and Tri-Annuals count toward the minimum requirement.
Non-original players need 20 (twenty) lifetime matches in order to join an already qualified team in the Spring Session before week 4 (four), and require Local League Office approval. If the player has fewer than 20 (twenty) lifetime matches, that player must be approved by the Local League Office prior to being added to the roster. The player’s skill level will be subject to heavy scrutiny.
PLAYOFFS
- Before the Wild Card draw, you may contact the League Operator to request to pass your eligibility to the next Division Points Leader in the Standings if your team is already "Qualified for the World Qualifier". Teams can also request to be removed from the Wild Card draw. Without a request, your team will stay in the Playoffs and/or Wild Card draw for a chance to play at Tri-Annuals for the cash added. Divisions with 5 or less teams cannot pass their eligibility with an already qualified team in the Division.
- ALL Playoff teams must have no PAST DUES to be eligible to play.
- All the rules governing regular session play apply during Session Playoffs except for forfeit points and no Double-play is allowed. A forfeit match during playoffs is worth 3 points (20 points for 9-Ball).
- Once it's mathematically impossible for the other team to come back in points, the team match is over and all play must stop immediately. Full Team Fees are payable in playoffs regardless of how many matches are played.
PAPER SCORESHEETS
Proper scorekeeping on paper is still important because it is used at higher level tournaments. Please send the following 8-Ball and 9-Ball Scorekeeping video to all your players to watch: Scorekeeping Videos
