I’d like to begin by saying THANK YOU to all of our APA members who are on the front line and have been putting their lives on the line day in and day out as we work through the Corona Virus. You ladies and gentlemen truly are hero’s I hope everyone is safe and has been abiding by the Stay At Home, at least those that can.
Like so many of you, I too am ready to get back to playing pool and seeing everyone, as well as supporting all of our wonderful host locations. As each day, week has passed, more and more questions pass through my brain, but there are three big ones that I am sure many of you have pondered as well.
1. When are we going to start back? - I simply do not have an answer for that. Like everyone else, I daily try to catch the latest from the Governor. Until we are give the green light that bars can open, there is nothing that we can do except look at all scenario’s and try best to plan how to crank the league back up. One thing is for sure, we still plan to complete the Spring Session.
2. What’s it going to look like? - By this I mean, what is league not only going to look like for the remainder of the Spring Session, but also, what’s our Summer Session going to look like both in duration as well as team count. We know that even once the green light is given to reopen the bars some players will still not feel comfortable venturing out yet. I understand and respect that, but we will crank back up as soon as the green light is given and get through the Spring Session and subsequent playoffs as best we can. We also understand that there may be capacity limitations on the bars. What’s that going to look like? What are those limitations? We don’t’ know this either and have run through various scenarios. Things may be a little crazy, but we will get through this.
3. What about 8 ball Tri-Cups and both 8 and 9 ball World Pool Qualifiers? - Our 8 ball Spring Tri-Cups and both the 8 ball and 9 ball World Pool Qualifiers are now tentatively rescheduled for the August/September time frames. As soon as I can confirm the details I will send this information out to the Captains. This will support the World Pool Championships that have been rescheduled for late November and early December.
As we move closer and closer to bars reopening and we learn more information we will broadcast it as much as we can so that everyone has the word. As mentioned above, we certainly understand that some players may not feel comfortable returning at this time, and we respect that and would not want anyone to put their life at risk. We also want you to understand that we will be working with our host locations to put plans in place that will both allow us to get back to playing pool while also being as safe as we possibly can. Please be on the lookout for additional communications as we inch closer and closer to that reopening date and I’d ask that you share everything with your teams so we have as many players aware as we can. Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone during this crisis.
Thank you ALL and Stay Safe!!
